Classic Blue - Kitchen Reno

Pantone announced Classic Blue 19-4052 as the Colour of the Year 2020. It was chosen for installing calm, confidence and connection.

The selection process for Pantone Color of the Year is taken with thoughtful consideration and trend analysis. To arrive at the selection each year, Pantone’s colour experts at the Pantone Color Institute comb the world looking for new color influences.

Previous colour winners include Living Coral (2019), Rose Quartz (2016), and Radiant Orchid (2014).

I chose Classic Blue as the feature colour for the cabintets at My Claybrick Home and I certainly believe it installs calm and connection in what can often be considered a hectic space in our home.

Kitchen Renovation

To make this space I knocked the original kitchen/dining room wall down to make one large space, which allowed a large peninsular with cupboards on both sides. I didn’t opt for the breakfast bar overhang as I wanted the storage space plus two steps away is the dining table and chairs.

After trawling around kitchen showrooms, I knew I wanted midnight blue cupboards with a white Cararra marble worktop and a light grey vein. In my heart I already knew this as I had an overflowing pinterest kitchen board full of blue kitchens’ but it’s always good to take a look in the flesh as the kitchen can be the most expensive room in a house to renovate.

I already had a large fridge freezer and knew I wanted the Smeg 5 ring burner range over (after having the single in my last kitchen). This made it easy to pick a sink unit – again from Smeg.

Blue Kitchen

The kitchen was completed in 2019 and installed by A&L Interiors (Rochford, Essex) and I love it.

I opted for brushed bronze handles which complement the peninsular light fixtures. The Kardean grey tile flooring runs throughout the main groundfloor of the house (excluding the living room) and laid on the horizontal gives the illusion of width to the room.

So, that’s the story of my how I used Blue in my kitchen

I would love to hear about you may have used blue or perhaps one of the other Pantone colours of the year in your home space.
